Performance-Grade Kitchen Cabinetry & Storage

Custom Cabinet Design & Installation Built for Cape Cod Homes

Cape Cod kitchens carry a lot of weight. They handle school morning chaos, holiday dinners, and summers when the house is full, and everyone ends up gathered around the island. The cabinets in those kitchens need to keep up, which means they need to be designed thoughtfully, built with the right materials, and installed by people who actually know what they're doing.

At Thomas Michael’s Kitchen and Bath, we’ve been designing and installing custom kitchen cabinets for Cape Cod homeowners since we opened for business in 2003. As a design-build company, our designers and installation team work together under one roof, so what gets designed is exactly what gets built. There’s no handoff between a separate designer and a separate contractor, and no gaps in communication along the way.

Over the past 20-plus years, we’ve completed more than 2,000 kitchen and bathroom projects across the Cape. That experience shapes every cabinet project we take on, and it’s why homeowners throughout the region trust us to get it right.

Why Cabinet Quality Matters, Specifically on Cape Cod

Choosing kitchen cabinets on Cape Cod is a different decision than it is almost anywhere else in Massachusetts.

The coastal environment creates real challenges that most cabinet manufacturers and installers outside the region don't think about, and older Cape Cod homes come with their own set of considerations that require genuine local knowledge to navigate well. Salt air and humidity alone can cause cabinet finishes to peel, doors to warp, and hardware to corrode if the wrong materials are used.

We’ve seen it firsthand. Homeowners come to us after painted cabinet doors started delaminating within five years, a direct result of finishes that weren’t rated for coastal humidity. The wrong product fails. The right one, installed correctly, doesn’t.

That’s why every material choice we make, from wood species and finish to hardware, is selected with the coastal climate in mind. Our designers specify marine-grade finishes and corrosion-resistant hardware for homes near the water, so your cabinets hold up just as well a decade from now as they do on installation day.

Cabinet Brands and Product Lines

The cabinets we install aren't sourced from a single supplier or limited to one price point. We carry a carefully selected range of product lines that give Cape Cod homeowners real options, whether they're looking for a budget-conscious upgrade or a fully custom build. Here's a look at what we carry.

KraftMaid

KraftMaid is one of the most recognized cabinet manufacturers in the country, and for good reason. Their product line offers a wide range of door styles, finishes, and storage configurations, making them a strong fit for homeowners who want reliable quality with plenty of room to personalize.

KraftMaid cabinets are also built to order, which means every unit is made specifically for your kitchen rather than pulled from a warehouse shelf. That level of customization is what makes them worth the investment for the right project.

KraftMaid tends to be the right call for homeowners doing a full primary kitchen remodel who want a wide range of customization options and plan to stay in the home long-term. If you’re investing in a kitchen you’ll use for the next 20 years, this is where most of our clients land.

Waypoint Living Spaces

Waypoint Living Spaces offers a more accessible price point without sacrificing the quality standards we hold every product to. Their cabinets are well-suited for homeowners working within a defined budget who still want a finished kitchen they're genuinely happy with, and they pair well with a range of countertop and hardware selections, which keeps your flexibility intact across the rest of the design.

That versatility is part of why Waypoint tends to be such a strong fit for vacation properties and seasonal homes. It's also a natural landing spot for homeowners who want a clean, updated kitchen without the investment of a fully custom build. If budget is a priority but quality still matters, Waypoint delivers the best value in our lineup.

Hardware and Finishing Touches

The cabinet box and door are only part of the picture. To complete the look, we work with trusted hardware brands including Top Knobs and Hardware Resources, offering pulls, knobs, and soft-close hinges that are built to stand up to daily use. The right hardware ties the entire design together, and the difference between a thoughtful pick and a forgettable one shows up every time you open a drawer.

Cabinet Brand Comparison

Choosing the right cabinet line depends on your priorities, your home, and how long you plan to stay in the space. Both of the cabinet brands we carry offer reliable construction and strong design flexibility, but they serve slightly different types of projects:

Feature KraftMaid Waypoint Living Spaces
Cabinet Type Semi-custom cabinetry built to order Semi-custom cabinetry built to order
Design Flexibility Extensive selection of door styles, finishes, and storage accessories Streamlined options that still allow for strong personalization
Best Fit For Primary residences and full kitchen remodels Vacation homes, rental properties, or budget-conscious remodels
Customization Range Wide range of configurations and specialty storage solutions More limited but still highly practical configurations
Investment Level Mid to upper range Mid range
Ideal Project Homeowners planning to stay in their home long term and want deeper customization Homeowners looking for dependable quality with a more defined budget

Both options allow our designers to create a kitchen that works for your space. During your consultation, we’ll walk through the differences in person so you can see door styles, finishes, and construction details side by side before making a decision.

Cabinet Styles, Finishes and Custom Options We Offer

Once you’ve chosen a product line, the real design work begins. The style, finish, and configuration of your cabinets will define the look and feel of your kitchen for years to come, so it’s worth taking the time to get those decisions right.

Our designers work with you to identify the options that best suit your home’s character, your lifestyle, and how you actually use the space every day.

Cabinet Styles

Cape Cod kitchens come in a wide range of architectural styles, and your cabinetry should feel like it belongs there rather than something pulled from a catalog. We offer:

  • Classic shaker doors, which suit traditional Cape Cod cottages and colonial-style homes particularly well.
  • Modern slab fronts are a clean and minimal option that works well in newer builds or updated open-concept layouts.
  • Coastal-inspired styles that draw from the natural tones and textures of the region, keeping the kitchen feeling connected to its surroundings.
Finishes and Colors

The finish on your cabinets affects the look of your kitchen and how your cabinetry holds up over time. From painted finishes to stained woods and glazed options, each brings a different character to the space.

Our designers can walk you through what works well in coastal light, which finishes tend to show wear faster in high-traffic kitchens, and what pairs naturally with the countertop and flooring materials you’re considering.

Storage Configurations and Accessories

A well-designed cabinet layout does more than look good. It makes the kitchen easier to use every single day. Depending on your storage needs, your cabinet plan might include:

  • Deep drawer bases for pots, pans, and larger cookware.
  • Pull-out shelves that eliminate the need to dig through back corners.
  • Built-in pantry cabinets sized for modern appliances and bulk storage.
  • Soft-close hinges and drawer glides built for years of heavy daily use.

Every configuration is tailored to your kitchen’s dimensions and the way your household actually operates. You can also see finished samples and door styles in person at our East Wareham showroom before making any final decisions.

When you work with a design-build team, the process looks different than hiring a designer and a contractor separately. Our designers and installers are the same team, which means the plan that gets drawn up is the plan that gets built, with no translation errors, no miscommunication between vendors, and one clear point of contact throughout.

Here is how the process works from start to finish:

Free Design Consultation

Every project begins with a conversation. We start by looking at your current cabinet layout, talking through what's working and what isn't, and getting a clear picture of the storage, style, and functionality you're after. This consultation is available as an in-person showroom visit or a virtual meeting, whichever works best for your schedule.

In-Home Assessment

After the initial consultation, one of our NKBA Certified Designers visits your home to take precise measurements and assess the existing layout. This step is essential for accurate cabinet planning, particularly in older Cape Cod homes where walls, ceilings, and floor lines aren’t always as straight as a floor plan suggests.

3D Design Presentation

With your measurements and preferences in hand, we build a detailed 3D rendering of your new kitchen. We present this to you at our showroom alongside a clear “Good, Better, Best” budget outline so you can see your options at different investment levels and make confident decisions before anything is ordered or built.

Feasibility Study

Before contracts are signed, we conduct a feasibility study that takes a thorough look at the project's scope, any structural or logistical challenges, and the detailed cost implications of the design. This step gives you a complete and accurate picture of what the project involves before any work begins, something most contractors skip entirely.

Contract & Project Kickoff

Once you’re satisfied with the design and numbers, we finalize everything in a detailed written contract that outlines the scope of work, materials, timeline, and costs. From that point forward, you have access to your project through JobTread, our cloud-based project management software that gives you real-time visibility into scheduling and progress updates throughout the build.

Professional Installation

We handle all permitting required for your project before work begins, so you don't need to coordinate with local building departments or permit offices yourself. From there, our installation team handles every cabinet with care, making sure each unit is properly aligned, level, and secured before moving to the next.

Final Walkthrough

When installation is complete, we walk through the finished kitchen with you to review every detail. Any adjustments are handled before we consider the project closed, and our post-completion support process means we remain accessible if anything comes up after we’ve left the job site.

Our commitment doesn’t end on the day installation is complete. If an issue comes up after your project is finished, you contact our office directly, the issue gets documented and reviewed, and a service visit is scheduled promptly.
