Mike & Tom both came from Corporate America working for large kitchen cabinet manufacturers.

They met in a hotel bar during a kitchen bath conference in 1998 and hated each other almost immediately. However, they both also hated the fact that the kitchen business was being consumed by big dirty warehouse stores, and lumber yards. Sure- you could get a pretty good price on kitchen cabinets, but most of the time- the designs never fit.

If clients wanted perfection in their kitchen project, they were forced to overspend in trendy boutique stores. This industry needed a change! Thus was launched Open House Kitchen & Bath in 2000. In 2007, Open House launched its new design center concept- Thomas Michaels Kitchens.
